Okra Seeds — Haritha (බණ්ඩක්කා හරිත) — premium Haritha okra seeds. The Haritha variety produces deep emerald-green pods with tender skin, low fibre content, and excellent eating quality — Sri Lanka’s most popular home garden okra.
Growing season: Year-round, with best yields in Yala (March–August). Germination in 5–7 days.
Climate fit: Bred for Sri Lankan conditions — grows in all lowland and intermediate zones. Outstanding in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Hambantota, and Gampaha.
How to sow: Soak seeds for 12 hours before sowing. Plant 2 cm deep, 45 cm apart in rows 60 cm apart. Direct sow once soil temperature reaches 25°C.
Care: Full sun, well-drained fertile soil. Apply Eco Max Bio Bull cow dung pellets at sowing and top-dress with Eco Max Green Boost when plants are 30 cm tall. Mulch the base. Water every 2–3 days.
Harvest: First pods in 50–60 days. Pick at 7–10 cm — daily picking keeps plants productive for 3–4 months. The Haritha variety is famous for keeping its tender quality even on slightly larger pods. Each plant yields 1.5–2 kg.
Culinary use: Classic bandakka curry with coconut, fried okra, stuffed okra, or in vegetable mallun. The deep green colour stays vibrant even after cooking.
