Capsicum Seeds (මාලු මිරිස්) — 50-60 high-germination capsicum seeds. Grow crisp, sweet bell peppers in your home garden for fresh salads, stir-fries, and traditional Sri Lankan dishes.
Growing season: Best planted at the start of Yala (March–April) or Maha (September–October). Capsicum dislikes extreme heat. Germination in 7–14 days.
Climate fit: Thrives in Sri Lanka’s mid-country (Kandy, Matale, Badulla) and up-country (Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela) regions where temperatures stay between 20–28°C. Can grow in lowlands during the cooler months.
How to sow: Start in seedling trays for best results. Sow 0.5 cm deep, keep moist, germinate in light shade. Transplant after 30–35 days when seedlings have 4–6 leaves. Space 45 cm apart.
Care: Partial sun in hot lowlands, full sun in cooler zones. Use rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic compost. Apply Eco Max Lusty monthly for balanced nutrition. Water at the base, never wet the leaves. Stake plants when fruits start forming.
Harvest: First peppers ready in 70–80 days. Pick green when firm and shiny, or wait 2–3 more weeks for red ripening. Continuous harvest extends productivity to 4–6 months.
Culinary use: Sri Lankan malu mirisata curry, capsicum sambol, stuffed capsicum, devilled chicken, and fresh salads. Vitamin C powerhouse.
