Chilli Seeds — MI-2 (මිරිස් MI 2) — premium MI-2 chilli seeds from Sri Lanka’s Department of Agriculture breeding programme. The MI-2 variety produces medium-hot, deep red chillies with excellent yield and disease resistance.
Growing season: Year-round. Best transplanted at the start of Yala (March–April) or Maha (October–November). Germination in 7–14 days.
Climate fit: Bred for Sri Lankan conditions — performs across all lowland and intermediate zones. Excellent in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, and Hambantota.
How to sow: Start in seedling trays. Sow 0.5 cm deep, keep warm and moist. Transplant after 30–40 days. Space 50 cm apart in rows 75 cm apart.
Care: Full sun, well-drained fertile soil. Apply Eco Max Bio Bull at planting and Green Boost when flowering. Foliar feed with HS Liquid Fertilizer every 3 weeks for bigger harvests. Stake plants once fruits form.
Harvest: First green chillies in 70–80 days. Let some ripen to red for maximum flavour and dry storage. Each plant yields 1.5–2.5 kg over a 6-9 month productive life.
Culinary use: The base flavour of every Sri Lankan curry. Use fresh in pol sambol and lunu miris, dry for chilli powder, or pickle whole.
