Ladyfingers Seeds — MI-5 Variety (බණ්ඩක්කා MI 5) — 25-30 premium okra seeds of the high-yielding MI-5 strain developed for Sri Lankan conditions. Known for vigorous growth, disease resistance, and a longer productive window than common varieties.

Growing season: Plant year-round, with best results during Yala (March–August). Germination in 5–7 days at 25–30°C.

Climate fit: Adapted to all Sri Lankan agro-climatic zones except the high country. Excellent in Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura, and Hambantota districts.

How to sow: Soak seeds overnight. Sow 2 cm deep, 50 cm between plants and 75 cm between rows. The MI-5 plant grows tall (up to 1.8 m) and needs space.

Care: Full sun, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Mulch with rice husk or coconut coir. Feed with organic fertilizers every 3 weeks — Eco Max Bio Bull at base, Green Boost for top-dress, and HS Liquid Fertilizer as a foliar feed when flowering.

Harvest: Pods ready in 55–65 days. The MI-5 variety produces longer pods (10–14 cm) than common types — harvest every 2 days for best texture. Productive for 4–5 months. Average yield 2.5–3 kg per plant.

Culinary use: Perfect for traditional Sri Lankan okra curry, kottu-style stir-fries, and tempered with mustard seeds. The MI-5’s tender skin makes it excellent for stuffing.
