Growing season: Best sown during the Yala season (March–August) or early Maha (September–October). Germination takes 7–10 days in warm soil (25–30°C). Vines mature in 90–110 days.

Climate fit: Thrives in Sri Lanka’s dry zone and lowland wet zone. Performs well in Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, and Hambantota. In wet zone areas, plant on raised mounds for better drainage.

How to sow: Sow seeds 2 cm deep, with 1 m spacing between hills and 2 m between rows. Vines spread widely — needs a sunny open area or a strong trellis. Direct seeding works best; transplanting can shock young roots.
