Radish Seeds (රාබු) — 70-80 fast-germinating radish seeds. One of the quickest vegetables you can grow at home — from seed to harvest in just 25–35 days. Perfect for beginners and impatient gardeners.

Growing season: Best during cooler months (October–February). Yala-season planting works in up-country areas. Germination in 3–5 days.

Climate fit: Excellent in Sri Lanka’s mid-country and up-country zones (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela, Welimada). Can be grown in lowlands during the cooler Maha months.

How to sow: Direct sow 1 cm deep, 5 cm apart in rows 20 cm apart. Thin to 8–10 cm after first true leaves appear. Loose, well-draining soil is essential — root crops fail in compacted ground.

Care: Full sun. Water consistently — uneven watering causes cracked or pungent roots. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers (leaves grow at the expense of roots). Use Eco Max Bio Bull at sowing for balanced nutrition. Add coco peat to heavy clay soil.

Harvest: Pull when roots are 2–4 cm thick — don’t let them get too big or they turn woody and hot. Test by pulling one and tasting. Each packet plants a 4-row bed.

Culinary use: Sri Lankan radish curry (raabu maluwa), pickled radish (achcharu), grated raw in salads, or sliced into kothu roti. Leaves are edible too — sauté as mallun.
