Winged bean/ දඹල Seeds 20-25 nos

Winged Bean Seeds (දඹල) — 20-25 traditional Sri Lankan winged bean seeds. Dambala is the “tropical soybean” — every part is edible (pods, leaves, flowers, tubers, seeds) and packed with protein. A must-grow for home food security.

Growing season: Best planted at the start of Maha (September–October) to take advantage of the cooler dry season for vine development. Germination in 7–10 days. Pod harvest begins after 80–90 days.

Climate fit: Adapted to all Sri Lankan lowland zones. Grows superbly in Gampaha, Kalutara, Matara, and Anuradhapura districts. Tolerates humidity well.

How to sow: Soak seeds for 12 hours. Plant 2 cm deep, 1 m apart. Vines climb up to 4 m — provide strong trellising (bamboo poles, fence, or pergola). Direct sowing only.

Care: Full sun, well-drained soil with moderate fertility. As a legume, it fixes its own nitrogen — go light on nitrogen fertilizers. Apply Eco Max Bio Bull cow dung pellets once at sowing for phosphorus and potassium. Mulch the base.

Harvest: Young pods at 10–15 cm are the most tender — pick every 2 days. The same vine produces for 4–6 months. Yields 2–3 kg of pods per vine, plus edible flowers and leaves throughout.

Culinary use: Dambala curry with coconut, stir-fried with garlic and chilli, tempered as a side dish, or made into traditional Sri Lankan sambol. Young leaves can be added to mallun.
